| Tiles - Solution |
| Puzzle Location: KPIX |
| Next Puzzle: Strips |
The first step in solving this puzzle is to realize that the pattern, |
![]() |
| represents an overlay of two separate layers. Each dark grey square represents a location where both layers have a dark tile. Each light grey square represents a location in which only one of the layers has a dark tile. The solution to the puzzle requires separating the two layers. The trick to doing so is to recognize that the layers are 90 degrees rotated with regards to each other (note the "TOP" labels), and that each line of a layer encodes a single letter in Morse code. How do we know it's Morse code? Have another look at the text given at the top of the transparency: |

| Look at the first letter of each line (ignoring the top and bottom lines). Note also the second line, which hints at the spacing of the dots and dashes--three tiles for a dash, one tile for a dot, and one blank space inbetween. This line also hints that the dots and dashes for each line are centered. The separated layers look like |
![]() |
| The left layer reads (from top to bottom): TIBURONANGEL. The right layer reads (left to right): ISLANDFERRY. So the complete solution is: |
